General Policy. By providing us with your email address, you implicitly consent to communicating with this law firm by that method. Email communication with us is intended to be protected by the attorney-client privilege and remain confidential. Email communication, however, is not without risk. To minimize that risk, our firm internally employs robust security measures to protect your email communications from inadvertent and improper disclosure. It is your responsibility to ensure that proper security measures are taken at your end when communicating with us by email to protect the communications we exchange electronically and to maintain their privileged and confidential status.
Risks. Your email may lose its privileged and confidential status if it is viewed by someone other than you and your attorney. The risks of unintended access to your email by others include, but are not limited to:
- Giving others the password to your email account.
- Simultaneous sharing of your email account with another person.
- Using a weak password that might be discovered or hacked by another person.
- Writing down your password and leaving that writing where others might find it.
- Storing your email password on a public computer or on a computer to which others have access.
- Use of your employer’s email system since an employer generally has a right to access that email.
- Sending email to an unintended recipient by mistyping or auto-populating an email address.
- Using a phone to which others have access to send and receive email.
Employer Email. If your email account is managed by your employer, we strongly recommend that you obtain a free email account from another email provider such Google Gmail and that you use this private email address to communicate with us. Alternatively, check your employer’s email policy to ensure that your communications with us will be treated as confidential within your workplace.
Compromised Email. If at any time you believe that your email account has been compromised, or that your email communications with us have been inadvertently or improperly accessed by another, you must contact us immediately so that we may discontinue communicating with you using that email address. We will thereafter cease communication with you by email until you obtain a new email account.
Address Change. If you change your email address, you must promptly notify us of your new address so we may begin communicating with you using the new email account.
Withdrwal of Consent. You may withdraw your consent to the use of email as a means of communicating with us at any time.
